Making things up to make them seem bigger than they are is easy. Take sales or marketing for example. It’s convenient to over promise, hype things up, create false expectations that might be difficult to meet for the sake of closing a deal.
What we should aim for is, to be honest with what we have and what we can do – our potential to deliver what’s agreed. Let’s aim for under promising and over delivering based on our skills and capacity to get the job done. Next time you talk with somebody, stay with your truth no matter its shape or form, be honest with yourself, and try not to create false expectations because it will eventually unroll and leave you in a bad position with everybody that trusted your word.
Our word is one of the most powerful things we have. Let’s use it honestly.
