All relationships are two-sided. This means that there’s always a giver and a receiver, but this doesn’t mean that the giver should always be the giver or the receiver should always be the receiver. In an effort for them to work properly, both sides must put a similar amount of effort. This goes from communication, empathy and conflict resolution to stress management, trust, and compassion.
Relationships rarely work when one side is always working harder.
Friends who always make time to reach out and spend time together will eventually get tired of it because they can’t see the other friend’s effort. Same goes for couples, siblings, parents, and other important relationships in our life.
Successful relationships work because both sides are contributing an equal amount of effort, not all the time, but most of the time. There’s no other way.
